POETRY | 98.6

Here and there I stand
shivering from the inside
Out of the heart
we do not speak

Poised and poisoned
I’ve tasted your venom
Coiled and cooled
you’ve swallowed your silence

Whispering glances
have stolen the secrets
Physical phantom
this tepid reunion

Shadows sweltering in the sun
scattered ashes hanging
Warm still smoke no longer
blazing over everyone

Sacred sorrows stillness
lost love’s last illness
Hearts broken and bleeding still
beating like dying drums receding

Now and then I wave you on
with sweaty palm
There and then fall back faint
with fevered calm
